Brian Van Weele, Principal

Brian provides comprehensive and strategic philanthropic planning and consulting services to private foundations, charitable trusts and high-net worth families. With over 25 years of philanthropic and nonprofit experience, he works closely with clients to maximize their philanthropic impact, promote family philanthropy, and develop strategic grant making goals.

As Vice-President of Philanthropic Services at Whittier Trust, the largest independently owned multifamily office on the West Coast, Brian served as the principal executive for seven family foundations representing over $175MM in philanthropic assets and $6MM in annual grants.

Prior to joining Whittier, Brian served as the Director of Philanthropic Planning for the Marin Community Foundation, a premier community foundation offering tailored philanthropic solutions to individuals and families utilizing donor advised funds and supporting organizations.

Brian earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley. He has professional experience as a financial planner, enrolled agent with the IRS, and as a registered investment advisor. He also served 10 years as Executive Director for a nonprofit social service agency providing foster care, mental health, and special education services to youth and families in Northern California.
